Artist Statement

Inspired by three years spent on Réunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean, I am fascinated by the idea of belonging. For me, destruction—unstitching, unwinding, sloughing off, and grinding down—is making. Which parts do we keep and which do we cast aside? What protects us and what harms us? My work is a talisman that holds opposites in balance, moving between poles in order to achieve wholeness.
