Artist Statement

The Central Arizona Project’s 336-mile diversion of the Colorado River underscores how humanity systematically destroys the environment by attempting to water the desert. Water is rerouted, an area experiences exponential growth, it faces a water shortage, and more water has to be found—the cycle is endless. Drain calls attention to how we take water for granted, asking, “What happens if one day you turn on your tap and nothing comes out?”
