Artist Statement

My work involves autobiographical interpretations of my relationship with my elders and the effects that society has had on their traditions. I consider the social and political context of my indigenous heritage through my choice of materials, which come with pre-existing functions. A manmade acrylic rod, for example, replaces a wooden branch to illustrate the decline of traditional healing within Aboriginal culture. By playing with hybridity, found objects, and form, my sculptures create a narrative, each one breathing its own account of past and present.
