Artist Statement

To embrace sacrilege and piety simultaneously is to embrace my own contradictory position—at odds with cultural inculcation and gender roles. My practice is born from the place where language (one/both/in-between) fails completely. Wax acts as a catalyst for fluidity, neither solid or liquid. In wax casting, one material substitutes for another, simulating an object by a more laborious process than what made the original. The time and commitment are not only useless but prove that the structure is flawed.
