Artist Statement

The body is not only a means to create sculpture, but sculpture in and of itself, a medium that forms an intimate connection between the artistís experience and that of the viewer. As a transgender artist, I use the body to explore the social metaphysics surrounding concepts of gender, sex, and sexuality. My recent work focuses on methods of oppression within language and how they become manifest emotionally, psychologically, and physically. Using woodblocks, I transform the plane of my skin into a dimensional and ephemeral challenge to patriarchal language.
