Portal Art Fair is held at Federal Hall National Memorial, which opened in 1842 as the United States Customs House, was designed by American sculptor John Frazee. Featured artists will install their work across three floors of the building, including the grand entrance rotunda, second floor galleries and balconies, and the lower-level rotunda, allowing visitors to rediscover the monumental architecture through a diverse range of artistic perspectives.
Portal provides a new opportunity to experience the work of dozens of artists in a week teeming with activity, and to reignite interest in the city’s architecture and history.
Carlos Davila is exhibiting four works at Portal, two wall assemblages and two large-scale floor sculptures. The scientific accomplishments and inventions, the mathematical discoveries, the architecture and art, and the cuneiform and hieroglyphic writing of many disparate ancient cultures have been a source of inspiration for Davila’s sculptures, combined with a fascination with space exploration and astronomy.
Portal, which runs concurrent with the Frieze Art Fair, takes place at Federal Hall National Memorial, 26 Wall Street, New York, NY from May 3-12, 2017, 10am – 5pm each day. Admission is free.
