New Orleans is a city rich in public sculpture that has artistic as well as social and cultural meaning to the fabric of the City. To celebrate International Sculpture Day Sunday April 24, 2016, the Arts Council is launching a scavenger hunt of public sculpture located throughout New Orleans. Simply take a photograph of yourself at one of the 100s of amazing public sculptures throughout the city and post it to either Instagram (@ArtsNewOrleans, @intsulptureday, #isday, #ArtTransformsCommunities), Facebook (@ArtsNewOrleans #isday, #ArtTransformsCommunities), or Twitter (@ArtsNewOrleans, @IntSculptureDay, #isday, #ArtTransformsCommunities). The best image from each Social media outlet will receive a set of 4 vintage Mignon Faget crystal glasses with the Arts Council logo. Winning mages will be selected based on overall social media likes, the uniqueness of location, and having all applicable social media tags.
So as you make your way through the City this Sunday take a moment to look at the amazing sculpture that surrounds us every day. From the sculptures lining the Riverwalk along the French Quarter, the Poydras Sculpture Corridor, to the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, and Alex Podesta’s Bunny Men, standing watch over Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, New Orleans is rich with sculptural finds, both hidden and obvious. Post your images and show us what you find!
Winners will be chosen and notified by Wednesday April 27, 2016.
