The International Stained-Glass Centre in Chartres, France is currently showcasing “Lights of the World: International Panorama of Contemporary Glass Art”. The exhibition is in collaboration with Glasmalerei Peters of Paderborn, Germany. The exhibition features over 250 artists from all over the globe. Each artist worked in the style of the ‘Kabinettscheiben’, a traditionally smaller artwork of stained glass created for the purpose of gift giving. Four NEW, LARGE SCULPTURES on view at the Catherine Konner Sculpture Park at Rockland Center for the Arts (ROCA) till Sept. 2018
4 Large abstract wooden sculptures by Peter Strasser recently installed at ROCA in Rockland County, NY. Each of these 10 foot sculptures were created using a sawmill in a unconventional style incorporating the natural organic tree lines as well as the straight angle lines of the sawmill. A light transarent white wash is used to embellish and preserve the artwork.
What Remains features the “scrap quilts” of New Jersey artist Laura Petrovich-Cheney. Using traditional and contemporary quilt patterns, Petrovich-Cheney creates complex and vibrant forms from Hurricane Sandy debris that was salvaged by the artist from dumpsters, refuse piles, and local waste stations. Her meaningful practice explores issues of loss, identity, memory, and renewal. Ultimately, the work symbolizes the beauty of enduring misfortune and creating something meaningful from the wreckage. Tadashi Hashimoto’s sculpture that is titled “Grounding Sky” is the current exhibition for the Sculpture Court at Reisman Hall and will continue until August 2017. This outdoor site is open to the public daily. Location: 6 Sullivan St., Cazenovia, NY, nearby corner of Sullivan and Seminary Streets and one block from RT 20 (Albany St.).
Sculptor and conceptual artist Beth Galston creates site-based installations that are informed by many sources, including science, architecture, engineering and nature. The immersive environment of Luminous Garden (Aerial) is an ephemeral light piece made of tiny yellow LEDs set in cast resin acorn caps. Inspired by a trip to the Galapagos and the experience of swimming underwater, the piece creates a floating world through which viewers journey.
Tadashi Hashimoto’s outdoor sculpture, titled: Grounding Sky, is on display in the Sculpture Court at Reisman Hall from April 2014 through August 2017. Titanosaurus, a large scale public sculpture by Connecticut artist Carlos Davila, will be installed in May for a two-year stay at a public park in Suwanee Georgia as part of that city’s SculpTour. Titanosaurus is constructed of stainless steel and marine-grade teak and other hardwoods, and is over 16′ long and 12′ high.
