Wisconsin Range, paper, Dimensions Variable, 2005

In varied formats, mapping is the structure of my work. Whether using maps directly to reorder landscape into ideal constructions, or creating imaginary terrains by mapping existing environments—it is the core of my material representation.

With Wisconsin Range, I have turned the informational image of a map into a sculptural object; projecting dramatic topography onto a specific county in Northern Wisconsin. By cutting out all the land information, leaving only property lines and river systems, I have made the 2-D piece of paper into a malleable structure in order to revise the terrain that lacks such elevation in real life.
