Have and Have Not , steel, glass, fabric, wood, 42"x24"x41", 2006

My work addresses issues of social interaction, class, and physical/mental health. Rooted in a very private space, the topics I explore are based on experiences we all share—bridging the gap between personal and public. There is a tension created in my sculpture by the semblance of utility. Have and Have Not is built to be fully functional, but the inherent fragility of the glass makes pushing the sculpture feel hazardous. That frustration is an important part of my work, as it forces the viewer to finish the motion, and thus the sculpture, in their mind.
