My work is a constant redefinition of where and what the peripheral is. As a physical state of being and as a standpoint of perception, the peripheral allows me to explore questions that cross disciplinary boundaries, using the language and methodologies of both art and science. With its fuzzy corners and undefined borders, the periphery and the translation process are an act of locating myself within the universe – both physically and conceptually. As I translate layers and layers of astronomical data and charts into three-dimensional forms, my sculptures become navigation devices that help me understand the relationship between the earth and the stars.
