Clifton Arts Center & Sculpture Park
The Municipal grounds consists of 24.6 acres of relatively
flat, park-like area which also contains the municipal building as well
as several former quarantine buildings that are maintained for historical
purposes. The civic center is a perfect setting for sculpture. At a formal
dedication on April 24, 1999, we had 24 pieces sited. We are planning
to site 6 more by Sept. 1999.
All pieces are on loan from the artists for a period of
two years, which is extendable at the wishes of either or both parties.
The City of Clifton pays for transporting the art and siting. Also the
work is insured at a wholesale value while it is on display. The artist
is invited to survey the grounds and assist in site selection, and has
a voice in the method of installation.
When a sale results from being exhibited in this venue, there is no commission
to be paid. If the artist wants to make a donation, it is of his/her own
volition.
The Clifton Municipal Sculpture Park has proven to be a
win-win-win situation. The artist wins by having a work of art on public
display; the city wins by presenting a cultural ambiance; the citizens
win by living and learning in the presence of art.
Open 7 days dawn to dusk. For directions: call City Hall. Parking on grounds,
no charge.
