Ninety percent of the sculptures are located on the grounds
of the campus, around and adjacent to the Jenkins Fine Arts Center. The
grounds of the campus are open to the public during daylight hours every
day of the year. Some sculptures are located in the courtyards of the
buildings, such as the Joyner library. These sculptures are accessible
during open hours which are posted on the building doors.
Visitors may obtain directions to East Carolina University
as well as a map of the region, city, and campus by contacting the Department
of Parking and Transportation Services. Tel: (252) 328-6294. Visitor metered
parking spaces are located in front of Jenkins Fine Arts and in most other
staff parking lots. Parking permits are available for purchase from Parking
and Transportation, and from individual schools and departments.
A map of the campus, showing the location of all sculptures,
is being developed. Directions are available from School of Art main office
staff and from Sculpture department faculty. No catalogue is presently
available but some printed materials about the sculptures are available
at Joyner Library and at Jenkins Fine Arts Center. Educational Tours,
led by Sculpture Area Graduate Assistants or Faculty, can be arranged
for schools, community groups, etc., by contacting the Area Coordinator
for Sculpture, School of Art, East Carolina University. There is no fee
for these tours but they can be arranged by appointment only, by calling
the School of Art at 328-6270.
Mendenhall student union, located a few minutes walk from
Jenkins Fine Arts Center, has a snack bar open to the public during school
hours. Several restaurants are located within a short walk of the Sculpture
Park.
East Carolina University Sculpture Park is an ongoing initiative
of the School of Art Sculpture Area. This non-profit, educational park
is integrated into the grounds of the ECU Campus. The majority of the
sculptures are located around and adjacent to the Jenkins Fine Arts Center.
Additional sculptures can be found in and near Joyner Library, which is
the site of an interactive, multimedia installation by American artist
Christopher Janney. Sculptures by Finnish sculptor Kari Huhtamo, ECU faculty
member Hanna Jubran, and other artists are located inside the library
and an interior courtyard. Sculptures by Roger Lapalme, Canada, Kenneth
Payne, Buffalo, NY, Ann Melanie, United Arab Emirates, D’jean Jawrunner,
Tucumacari NM, and Carl Billingsley, ECU Sculpture Park Director can be
viewed in front of Jenkins Fine Arts Center.
