Situated between the historic cathedral cities of Winchester
and Salisbury, The Garden Gallery exhibits the work of some 90 artists,
both well-established and new to their careers, creating individual sculptures,
pots, furniture and mosaics for gardens and conservatories. Work is displayed
in a mature, tranquil, traditional English country garden - the setting
for a 17th century house (not open). The planting is mainly trees, shrubs,
old roses and spring bulbs, with some herbaceous perennials. The garden
is laid out as a series of 'rooms', including two areas of lawn bordered
with shrubs, an ornamental pool, an orchard, a summerhouse, and a gravel
garden with ceramic fountain by Danish artist, Lotte Glob.
The opportunity to view works of art with complementary
planting, enhanced by the effects of light and water, enables clients
to envisage how a prospective purchase could be displayed in their own
gardens, creating an extra dimension, not least in winter when many plants
have abandoned their form and texture.
Work is shown at exhibitions, and visits by arrangement
at other times are welcome. There is also a small indoor gallery. A portfolio
of photographs of artists' work can be viewed in the office, and commissions
arranged.
