Step into another world as you enter the secluded grounds
of the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Garden, operated by the Albin
Polasek Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization. Just blocks from
Park Avenue in Winter Park lie the former home, studio, galleries, and
chapel of the internationally known sculptor Albin Polasek (pronounced
po-LAH-shek). After almost 30 years as head of the Department of Sculpture
at the Art Institute of Chicago, he chose this spot for his retirement.
Evident at the museum are the roots of his Czech heritage and his years
of study at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the American Academy
in Rome.
Stroll through three acres of lush gardens filled with classical
figurative sculpture and whimsical mythological pieces. The permanent
collection of approximately 400 pieces includes sculpture by Albin Polasek,
Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Charles Grafly, and Ruth Sherwood as well as antiquities
from Polasek’s personal collection.
