October's Sculpture Magazine.

Open to the public year-round, this 11-acre urban garden features more than 40 sculptures by leading American and international artists, plus the Cowless Conservatory, and Spoonbridge and Cherry, a giant fountain-sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. The Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge, designed by Siah Armajani, connects the Garden to Loring Park and downtown Minneapolis. A section added in 1992, designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc., Cambridge Massachussetts, features groves of deciduous trees, a rectangular granite-paved sculpture plaza, a three-hundred-foot-long, vine-covered arbor, and a perennial garden. Two new commisioned works by Dan Graham and Sol Lewitt were permanently installed in July 1996. In conjunction with the 10th anniversary, the Walker commisioned a new work by the collective Atelier van Lieshout. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, an eye catching hybrid of architecture and sculpture, consists of a full scale wood house, designed after traditional pioneer shelters, and an aluminum and fiberglass detachable mobile unit that will travel into community neighborhoods beginning Summer 1999. The Cowles Conservatory, which contains the Regis Gardens, houses permanent and temporary exhibitions of horticulture and works of art. The glass and wood sculpture Standing Glass Fish, by California architect Frank Gehry, is on view in the Conservatory's center house.
