Yorkshire Sculpture Park is set within 260 acres of beautiful
18th century parkland in the style of Capability Brown, shared
with University College Bretton Hall. Since 1977, YSP has pioneered the
curation of changing outdoor exhibitions of sculpture. Each year it presents
international exhibitions alongside smaller exhibitions and projects,
providing opportunities for the practice, understanding, and enjoyment
of sculpture for everyone. A display of bronzes by Henry Moore, sited
in the adjacent 100 acre Bretton Country Park, is an important collection
of the artist’s work in the region of his childhood. The recent acqusition
of a further 250 acres of historic landscape will enable YSP to undertake
yet more ambitious projects with artists.
Over recent years the exhibitions and displays programme
has included Phillip King, Sir Anthony Caro, Toshikatsu Endo, Kan Yasuda,
Barry Flanagan, Eduardo Paolozzi, Gio Pomodoro, Magdalena Abakanowicz,
Max Ernst, Kenneth Armitage, Edward Allington, Christo and Jeanne Claude,
Ursula von Rydingsvard, Jacques Lipchitz, Richard Long, and Joel Shapiro.
In addition to exhibitions and projects there are changing displays from
the Park’s loan collection which includes sculpture by Barbara Hepworth,
Elizabeth Frink, Emile Antoine Bourdelle, Richard Serra, Sol LeWitt, David
Nash, Dhruva Mistry, Grenville Davey, Serge Spitzer, Jaume Plensa, Edward
Allington, and Jonathan Borofsky.
Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a registered charity number
(1067908) and receives funding from Wakefield Metropolitan District Council
Education Department, Yorkshire Arts, West Yorkshire Grants, the Baring
