Call for Conference Session Papers:
THE DEADLINE FOR THE CALL FOR PAPERS HAS PASSED.
PRESENTERS SELECTED WILL BE NOTIFIED BY APRIL 15, 2008
The International Sculpture Center is seeking a diverse and comprehensive program covering topics relevant to sculpture today at its bi-annual membership conference in October 2008.
All panel abstract proposals must be submitted electronically. No faxed or mailed abstracts will be accepted.
The deadline for submission is January 15, 2008.
This year’s bi-annual conference will focus on Public Art and topics submitted should fall in this category. We are looking for panels which explore the following topics/ideas:
• Education - The Teaching of Public Art
From MFA programs to mentoring and residencies, how is public art being taught and evaluated? (What role is education playing in creating and evaluating public art today?)
• Sculpture as Place Making
How do sculptural works of art create place? Does scale matter? How do matters such as scale or placement fit into understanding public art?
• Issues of Conservation
What is the role of the conservator? How can questions about long-term conservation of public artworks be answered during design. From both artists and conservators perspectives, why has this become such an important discussion topic?
• Recent Case Studies
What creates controversy: content, site, budget, public opinion? What has happened since Serra's Titled Arc? How does the art world deal with controversy and unexpected reactions?
• New Zones
What are the new zones for public art? How and why are they emerging?
