About the Conference:

Inspired by the opening of the Olympic Sculpture Park, Sculpture in Public, Part I: Sculpture Parks and Gardens will bring together artists, arts administrators and advisors, curators, patrons, city arts commissioners, architects, city planners, and museum directors for dialogue and networking events focused on issues related to sculpture parks and gardens nationally and internationally, while incorporating many of the great art venues offered by Seattle and nearby Tacoma.

Registration rates:
Early bird: $350 member rate*. Register by August 15, 2007**.
Regular: $450 member rate*. Register by September 14, 2007.

**discount limited to first 100 registrants.
*ISC membership is required and must be current through October 31, 2007 to get member rate. Membership number is required on registration form.

Experience a Seattle treasure! Your day will begin with a scenic drive to the Chateau St. Michelle Winery in Woodville, WA. At the winery you will have a private tour and tasting of Chateau’s Reserve Collection. You will then have lunch on your own at the Redhook Brewery. Following lunch you will return to Seattle with a stop at Redmond’s nature oasis, Russell Watergardens. Space is limited so sign up early!

Western Washington University Outdoor Sculpture Collection - $75
Departs from Grand Hyatt Seattle

Considered one of the ten acclaimed university collections in the Unites States WWU campus is a must-see when visiting the Seattle area. With works spanning the last half of the 20 th Century you will see pieces by artists such as Caro, Maki, Serra, Noguchi and di Suvero, and Abakanowicz to name just a few. Our campus guide will be Western Gallery Museum Director, Sarah Clark-Langager. After the tour you will have time for shopping and lunch on your own in nearby La Conner, located at the mouth of Swinomish Inlet. Our coach will then travel to Deception Pass located on Whidbey Island complete with a ferry ride on the Puget Sound on the way back to the Grand Hyatt Seattle. Space is limited so sign up early!

Join us for an exclusive pre-conference reception!  Come meet your fellow conference attendees and attend a private opening of Cornish College of Arts Sculpture Faculty and Alumni Exhibition.   Sponsored in part by Cornish College of the Arts, conference attendees will have exclusive access to the gallery and will enjoy a reception featuring pizza, beer, and wine.  Shuttle service will be provided for conference attendees from the Grand Hyatt between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. Last shuttle departs Cornish Gallery at 8:30PM.

Opening Reception at Experience Music Project
Free to Attendees, Guest Tickets - $100

Bring a guest to the opening celebration. The ISC will have exclusive access to this popular Seattle Attraction. With a building designed by Frank Geary, Experience Music Project is a museum like no other. Attendees will have access to all the Experience Music Project galleries and can explore the story of American popular music with artifacts and interactive exhibits unique to this museum. Admission includes two drink tickets and hearty hors d’ouevres.

Designed by Dutch architect, Rem Koohass, opened in May 2004 this public library is home to an art collection worth seeing. On this docent led tour you will see pieces site specific pieces by Gary Hill, Ann Hamilton, and Tony Oursler as well as George Legrady, Mandy Greer, Lynn Yamamoto and George Tsutakawa. Space is limited and on a first come sign up basis.

 

Tuesday, October 16:

Tour of Microsoft Corporate Campus - $20
Departs from Seattle Art Museum (Downtown location)

Visit the prestigious Microsoft Corporate Campus. On our tour we will see this outdoor art collection including pieces by Ursula Von Rydingsvard, Ulrich Pakker, and Bean Finneran. After the campus tour we will go directly to the receptions at Tacoma’s William Traver Gallery and Museum of Glass. Tickets are limited to the first 40 people and available on a first come basis. Please note indoor exhibits will not be open during our visit.

 

Tuesday, October 16:

Conference Reception at Museum of Glass Tacoma
Free to Attendees, Guest Tickets - $100

Bring a guest to the reception at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. Starting with a pre-reception hosted by the William Traver Gallery, this evening will consist of food and fun at Tacoma’s Museum of Glass, known as an international center for contemporary art with a focus on glass. Attendees will have access to the galleries as well as the opportunity to see a hot shop demonstration or take a stroll across the Chihuly Bridge. Exhibitions will include Contrasts: A Glass Primer, a compelling introduction to the medium of glass, and Mining Glass which showcases the work of seven internationally distinguished contemporary artists working with glass including Mia Lynn, Teresita Fernández, and Jean-Michel Othoniel. Admission includes wine sponsored by Chateau St. Michelle and cocktail provisions for your enjoyment.

Tour of Dale Chihuly’s Boathouse - $75

Join us for this private tour of world renowned glass sculptor and Seattle resident, Dale Chihuly’s private studio, the Boathouse. Closed to the public, this is a rare opportunity to see Dale’s works in this intimate setting, available exclusively to conference attendees. Tickets are limited and available on a first come basis. This will be a sell out so reserve your ticket early!

Tour of University of Washington Campus Sculpture Collection
and Henry Gallery - $35

See Seattle’s "Other Sculpture Park" – the University of Washington Campus.  On your 90 minute guided tour you will see the University’s significant sculpture collection including works by Joseph McDonnell, Martin Puryear, and Barnett Newman.  After your walking tour of the campus you will have a guided tour of the Henry Art Gallery including James Turrell’s Skyspace before returning to downtown Seattle.
