According to Freud, jokes require a third-person observer. As the judge, the observer demonstrates the importance of evaluation to all public activities. I’m interested in the broader ethical and political implications of how this might relate to art. When we observe a space, we, the perceiving subjects, are central. My work inverts this immersive relationship, placing viewers outside the panorama, as observers.
