KRISTIN DESIDERIO

Empty Case, 4.5' x 1.5', Oak 2004.

My current work investigates visible symbols of power, security, and authenticity. Part of this discussion is the vexed relationship between citizen and state, viewer and mass media, viewer and artist in the post-9111 world. I strive to create scenarios that disarm, embarrass, and spuriously glorify different modern weapons. The weapons I choose include guns missiles, mortar rounds, and grenades. Some are fabricated, while others are cast from molds of the real thing. My sculptures of these extermination tools become metaphorical "power objects."
