I begin each project with a general idea, then as I work, the pieces evolve like cells. By building on a single element, complex arrangements develop. Options not evident at the start lead me to new ideas. My work forces people to walk under, around, or over it. They must react: it is not a passive experience. Since my work involves the buildup of material, it must therefore erode over time. Like living tissue, it will decay and fall apart.
