SARAH KINDELAN

Stockpile, 64" x 50" x 24", Mixed media, 2005.

My work is about the practical and illustrative qualities of the materials we use to cover things. The way we wrap objects depends greatly on our intentions to preserve, cover, hide, or enhance them. In recent work, I explore different instances of envelopment and analyze coverings themselves as containers. I use aluminum foil to wrap things to be preserved, fabric to conceal and embellish. The coverings serve as a medium between object and environment, and it is my goal to illustrate the connection between the two.
