Born and raised in Cairo to an Egyptian father and an American mother, the duality of my background is reflected in today's sociopolitical climate, the perception of West versus East. I respond to my heritage by drawing from Egyptian culture, primarily through the use of the Arabic language, and locating it within Western context. I intend to create a dialogue between these two vastly different cultures, but also convey the often conflicting nature that exists both within myself and in the world.
