Unfinished Sentences, 2007. Concrete, 94" x 22" x 22".

Although my work is influenced by the urban environment, it is also fed by a connection to the rural, wooded landscapes in which I grew up. Recently I’ve been making concrete structures using methods associated with foundation pouring techniques, the ancient Greek way of constructing columns, the formation of sedimentary layers, and the work of gravity. I’m thinking about the forms inherent in the accumulation and passage of time, specifically focusing on layering and the building up of a larger form through the stacking of multiple elements. I’ve tried to make physical the relationships of space between the body and specific forms, colors, scales, and materials.
