deserving artists by attending the Gala honoring Christo and Jeanne-Claude

Excitement continues to build at the ISC as we plan for future programs
and events. Several new initiatives were approved at a January meeting
of the ISC Boards Executive Committee. Board member James Surls
said that two things are important to artists: making their work and showing
their work. He suggested, and it was unanimously supported, that our upcoming
International Sculpture Conference in Cincinnati (June 79, 2005)
feature work by any and all attendees who wish to exhibit. Board member
Albert Paley floated a concept to offer limited edition prints by invited
artists; sales would provide ongoing support for the ISC. Most sculptors
enjoy returning to drawing, and a series of prints, exclusive to the ISC,
will open a much larger market of collectors. Details will appears in
future issues of Sculpture and on the ISC Web site <www.sculpture.org>.
Planning for the 2004 Fall Sculpture Symposium in New Orleans (October
2831) and the Fall Awards Gala honoring New Orleans patrons Walda
and Sydney Besthoff (October 30) continues. The inspiration of long-time
ISC Board member and New Orleans sculptor Lin Emery, these events offer
a weekend of art and more art. Attendance is limited, so start making
your plans now.
Without a doubt the ISC has a superb Board of Directors. Approximately
50% artists and 50% supporters of sculpture, they are dedicated, engaged,
and very talented individuals. The level of active participation is the
highest of any Board on which I have served. We each serve because we
love sculpture and believe that our work is making a difference in the
recognition and appreciation of sculpture.
The ISC closed its 2003 books with a strong cash balance, and more importantly
we are moving in a positive direction. We have a great staff and a very
positive future. We are determined to make your organization more meaningful
and responsive to your needs. Please continue to give us feedback on how
we can make the ISC better. If you know a Board member, give them a call.
If you prefer, send me an e-mail <robert@sculpture.org>.
We represent you and are doing our very best to make ISC the finest organization
representing any group of artists and collectors.
