From
the Chairman
It seems an appropriate
time to talk about what the ISC does for youour membersand
how you can help us become even better.
Without a doubt,
Sculpture magazine is our most visible and substantial benefit. This beautiful,
award-winning publication helps keep all of us informed and connected
to what is happening in the world of sculpture. From reviews to interviews,
critical articles to informative discussions, Sculpture covers three-dimensional
art in all its many forms. And if youre looking for exciting exhibitions
to visit, dont forget to consult Itinerary, Sculptures listing
of current shows around the country and the world.
Our Web site <www.sculpture.org>
continues to grow in both usage and content. A principle benefit to our
members is the ability to show their work, at no charge, on the Web sites
Portfolio section. Feedback tells us that works are being sold as a result
of Portfolio listings. We are presently converting the Web addresses for
each individual Portfolio to include the sculptors name in the address,
which will allow our members to send people directly to their Portfolio
in a clear, simple way. Let us know how we can make the Web site even
more useful: e-mail <russ@sculpture.net>.
Conferences are a
significant membership benefit. Not only are they educational, but they
also offer an opportunity for participants to meet and hear important
sculptors and to network with one another. We held a very successful one-day
conference in 2003 and are planning another for the fall of 2004 in New
Orleans, with a major conference planned in 2005 in Cincinnati. We are
committed to regular conferences, with a present calendar extending through
Seattle in 2007.
We will continue
to have juried membership exhibitions every other year, with the next
one scheduled for 2005, and we also will also continue our very popular
annual Student Awards selection and exhibition. Our annual Lifetime Achievement
Awards, Patron Awards, and Educator Awards continue to be a way for the
sculpture community to recognize those who have made a real difference
in the world of sculpture, and they serve as major fundraising support
for the ISC. Our next event will be held on April 29 in New York, recognizing
the lifetime achievement of Christo and Jeanne-Claude. For information
contact Dawn Martin at 609.689.1051 ext. 129 or <dawn@sculpture.org>.
We need your ongoing
support. We need your ideas and feedback: e-mail <RDuncan@sculpture.org>.
If you are a subscriber or a newsstand purchaser, we ask that you upgrade
to a full membership. Encourage your friends and colleagues to join the
ISC. Memberships are our life blood. Tell others what you like about the
ISC. And tell us how we can improve your organization.
