It is with great thanks that the ISC says goodbye to two long-serving board members—Helen Escobedo and Barrie Mowatt. Helen and Barrie have served the ISC for many years and have provided invaluable guidance and support to the organization. Each has also diligently represented the United States’ southern and northern neighbors on the ISC board, and we look forward to continuing our close work with Helen and Barrie as we continue to expand our international activities and plan future conference programs in Mexico and Canada.
While saying goodbye to board members is always bitter, it is often made at least somewhat bittersweet by the knowledge that new indviduals with new skills and interests will follow. This occasion is no exception. It is with great excitement and anticipation that we welcome five new board members to the ISC to help guide and support our continuing efforts to accomplish our mission. Our new board members are Patricia Meadows, Ric Collier, Robert Edwards, and Sebastián.
Patricia is the owner of an art consulting firm, Art Connections, in Dallas, Texas. She is the senior curator and collection manager for the Hall Collection. She has been a practicing artist, frequent art lecturer, and juror and has extensive nonprofit board experience.
Ric has recently retired from an 11-year run as the executive director of the Salt Lake Art Center to return to the studio as a working artist. He was previously president of the Southwest Craft Center in San Antonio, Texas; director of the Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi; executive director of the Boise Gallery of Art in Idaho; and director of the Missoula Museum of Art in Montana.
Bob is the managing director and senior portfolio manager of a money management firm based in Naples, Florida. He is an avid collector of modern and contemporary art and serves on a number of art-related nonprofit boards.
Sebastián is one of Mexico’s best known and most prolific contemporary sculptors. He has exhibited widely, and his monumental works can be found in public venues around the world.
We are excited about the new energy, vision, diversity, and skills that Patricia, Ric, Bob, and Sebastián will bring to the ISC board. We are grateful to each of them for accepting our invitation, and for expressing interest in joining us to steer and steward the ISC over the years to come. It is my fervent hope that each of our board members will find the experience as rewarding and enjoyable as I have found it over the past five years.
I take this opportunity to publicly thank Helen, Patricia, Barrie, Ric, Bob, and Sebastián for their interest in, and service to, the ISC. To sculpture!
Chairman, ISC Board of Directors
