From the Chairman

It may or may not be a coincidence that our annual appeal arrives as the holiday season approaches. Certainly the generosity that you have expressed in recent years suggests that our timing is good as we begin mailing our requests for support of the ISC.
The proceeds from this year’s campaign will help support the programs and services that we have identified in our five-year strategic plan. This includes the development of new programming, including the ISC Connects lecture series, student awards, conferences, symposia, our Web site, and this magazine.
Your support is greatly appreciated. And when you open your checkbook, please remember that you also support the sculpture community when you complete one of our surveys, attend an ISC-sponsored event, or provide feedback to our staff and Board members.
I would also like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank our outgoing Board members, Josh Kanter, Walter Schatz, and STRETCH. More information is provided in Postscript on page 72, but I would like to thank them personally for their leadership during challenging
economic times. The ISC not only survived those challenges, we grew. Certainly I was grateful to begin my tenure as chairman with the ISC in such great condition. Josh, who served as the chair of the ISC Board of Trustees from 2006 through 2010, was on the Board for nine years. As chair, he worked to strengthen the ISC’s financial and programmatic structures and helped to expand the diverse group of governing trustees.
I would also like to recognize our new Board members, Ralfonso Gschwend and Berlin architect Philipp von Matt. On behalf of the ISC Board and staff, a warm welcome to you both.
On behalf of the Board, I would also like to welcome new and recent additions to the ISC staff, including Alyssa Brubaker, Elena Goukassian, Julie Hain, Karin Jervert, Matt Lucash, Joshua Parkey, and Samantha Rauscher. While the Board is responsible for setting the vision of the ISC, the hard work that is necessary to make that vision happen is the responsibility of our great staff. We have the greatest respect for what you do.
