Claire Lieberman: Material Sensitivities
by Rebecca Dimling Cochran
Claire Lieberman is a sculptor with a clear sensitivity for materials. Incredibly agile, she demonstrates a comfort with everything from alabaster, marble, and glass to cast rubber and resin, to ice and molded Jell-O. She has even experimented with photography and video, though always with her sculptures as the subject of the work. Her strength lies in her ability to mine the essence of these materials and use their inherent emotive powers to help transmit her ideas.

Brown Bear with Paw Dipped in Beeswax, 2010. C-print face-mounted on Plexiglas, 24 x 18 x 1 in.
