Four years ago, I accepted the role as Chairman of the ISC Board of Trustees with a great sense of anticipation for what we could achieve.
I have enjoyed success in my business life and believed that, by applying strong business practices to the ISC, the Board could accomplish great things. One of our first acts was to develop a strategic plan. Goals and objectives were set for program development, member benefits, enhanced Web services, exciting events, and, of course, great publications. Since then, the ISC Board and staff have generated much success. ISConnects, a new lecture series, was received with great enthusiasm. A patron, two educators, and four Lifetime Achievement recipients have been honored. Two books have been published. Hundreds of students have been engaged and encouraged. Conferences have been held in Chicago, New Zealand, and Miami. More than ever, we are truly an international organization.
One thing I have learned from the last four years is that you cannot measure the success of the ISC by its balance sheet. The business side of the organization is necessary to ensure that we are able to deliver the many services we have pledged to provide. At the same time, the richness of our work must be taken into account: encouraging one another as we seek new ways to promote sculpture is most important.
I would like to thank the Board and staff for what has been accomplished during this time. We are blessed with a diverse and strong Board whose members have worked together to achieve great things for the ISC. I would also like to thank Johannah Hutchison and the ISC staff. They have a great passion for sculpture and do whatever is necessary to enhance the membership experience.
I would like welcome Ree Kaneko to her new position as Board Chairman. I have known Ree for many years. An artist herself, she has made a career of working with young artists and is also an accomplished business manager. I have great confidence that through her leadership, the ISC will continue its great tradition of providing a supportive environment for sculpture and sculptors throughout the world.
In closing, this is the time of year we hold our annual appeal for gifts. Please join others who share your passion for sculpture and give generously to the ISC.
