September 18, 2012 FREDERIK MEIJER GARDENS AND SCULPTURE PARK Body Double: The Figure in Contemporary Sculpture
An eager crowd of over 400 people crowded Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park on September 18 2012 to see a special preview of the exhibition Body Double: The Figure in Contemporary Sculpture. Guests mingled over desserts and brownies, and then viewed the show, which features twenty-six sculptors from North and South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, carefully selected to represent the breadth and variety of artistic expression related to the figure from the literal to the symbolic, the candid to the surprising.
Guests then joined the ISC in the auditorium for an ISConnects panel discussion moderated by Joe Becherer, Director and Curator of Sculpture. The panel featured thirteen international sculptors represented in the exhibit. The discussion sought to explore the historical figurative tradition and to challenge the audiencesí comprehension of the figure in Contemporary sculpture. A lively Q & A session followed the discussion, and guests were able to continue conversation with the artists.
The panel included sculptors: Khalil Chishtee, Pakistani; Lawrence Epps, British; Carole Feuerman, American; Rolf Jacobson, Danish; Kurt Kaiser, American; Shawn LeFevre, American; Jennifer McCandless, American; Deanna Morse, American; Dora Natella, American; Nan Nickson, American; Cort Savage, American; Christy Singleton, American; Meri Tancredi, Italian.
