Biography

Charles Welles is a sculptor who primarily carves marble. On occasion, he also carves wood and works in bronze. He has been carving for approximately thirteen years. His studio is in Bardwell, near Factoryville, in the Endless Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania. He exhibits throughout the northeastern United States as well as regionally. His work includes figurative, abstract and conceptual work.

He has been affiliated with Artists for Art, a nonprofit organization for artists in northeastern Pennsylvania which operates the Afa Gallery in Scranton, Pa, since its founding in 1989. He is also a member of the Endless Mountains Council of the Arts and the Springville Schoolhouse Art Studios, both in northeastern Pennsylvania. He has also been active at the Carving Studio in West Rutland, Vermont, and at the MARBLE/marble workshops in Marble, Colorado.
