Frank Colson’s long and varied career as a potter, sculptor, and fabric artist. He has served on faculties of Florida State University, University of Tampa, Penland School of Crafts, and Haystack School of Crafts at Deer Isle Maine. He operated his own studio in Australia for nearly two years and, later was a visiting guest lecturer for the New Zealand Potter’s Guild, as well as the Hobart Potters’ Association in Tasmania. He is currently on the board of directors of the Museum of Asian Art in Sarasota, Florida.
He built a large art-casting foundry in San Jose, Costa Rica. He also established an art tile factory in San Miguel d’ Allende, Mexico, and designed an indigenous pottery in Oaxaca.
Mr. Colson’s extensive exhibitions have included a one man show at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, International House in Tokyo, Japan; and most recently in June 200, and City Gallery, in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2002, Frank Colson published a series of eManuals on “Hand Made Tiles”.
