  • Through the language of abstraction, I strive to conjure a familiar emotional presence in unfamiliar physical forms. My process of carving is driven by this search for the unexpected, and plays out in an effort to transcend stone's resistance to spontaneous change. My work is an exploration of the inherent and essential tension which exists between geometric and organic form. These sculptures begin with a foundational concept which initially directs the piece, from which point they are resolved mostly from decisions made in the moment over the course of a month or more.
