Leslie Bruning was born in Syracuse, KS and raised in Nebraska. After studying at Graz Center in Austria, he graduated with BA-Art from Nebraska Wesleyan University. In 1970 he was awarded a MFA- Sculpture form Syracuse University. He is currently the Chair of the Art Area of Bellevue University, BellevueNE and a founding member of the Market North Hot Shops Art Center, Omaha, NE. His studio and Bruning Sculpture, Inc., a casting and fabrication studio to produce architectural detail and other artists' work, is located in the Hot Shops Art Center, 1301Nicholas, Omaha, NE 68102.
Bruning received his first sculputre commission in 1969 at the County-City Building, Lincoln, NE and has completed over 30 commisions since that time. He has produced the Governor's Art Award for the staet of Nebraska, given slide presentations at the Central Time Zone Sculpture Symposium, Lincoln, NE and the 1990 International Sculpture Conference, Washington, DC, and recieved a Mentoring Grant from the Nebraska Art Council. He is included in many public and private collections including the museum of Nebraska Art, Kearney, NE.
Bruning has participated in over 100 Juried and invitational Shows throught United Stated. In 1998 and 1999 he participated in the pier Walk Sculpture Exhibition on Chicago's Navy Pier. He was on the original J. Doe Committee, Omaha NE. He has also participated in the Elements Show at Fontenelle Forest, Bellevue, and the wind and Water Show in Omaha's Leahy Mall. He has also participated in outdoor exhibitions in Omaha and Bellevue, NE., Lawrence and Topeka, KS., Skokie and Galena, IL.
