The shelter form embodies the souls desire to retreat into a comforting and protective environment. The human experience is explored through natural materials which bring the viewer away from the controlled man made world and into the raw and mysterious realm of Nature where we are vulnerable and the most real.

“If we wrap our naked souls in the raw and mysterious power of nature, taking refuge, we would leave personal artifacts, vessels with the voice of nature.” Willow or other subtle branches are used to create the under structure with seeds, wool, bark or pine cone layered to create the surface. The organic vessel forms reflect the attitudes and insecurities that dwell within us, through form, gesture and their interaction with each other and the viewer.

An environmental artist since the early 1990’s, Visser exhibits widely in the Midwest. She participated in the “Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet” exhibit at the Field Museum in Chicago and is part of the permanent collection of the future Nature Art Museum in Gongju, South Korea.
