PAUL KUBIC F.A.A.R.
Paul Kubic was twice awarded the American Prix de Rome (1978 and 1979). He has an M.F.A from the Cranbrook Academy of Fine Art, after a B.A. at the Cleveland School of Art.
In Rome he met his Dutch art-historian wife and since 1989 he lives and works in the Netherlands.
He worked predominantly in bronze and welded steel, drawing and painting some on the side. After 2003, when he lost the sight in his right eye and he was no longer able to do the fine welding, he works in wood: layered, glued multiplex.
‘Architectural ruins, random rock formations, organic growth and natural elements form the basis for the sculptures I make. I also like to browse through art history, mythology and outsider art to test available forms of expression.
Notwithstanding the versatile use of themes, forms and materials, I try to keep my work accessible. However, one does have to bring up the patience and willingness to look at lot, because a minimalist I’m not…’
