 Erika Strecker has been a full-time sculptor & blacksmith for the past 15 years.  She received her MFA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and her BA from Kenyon College.  She and her husband sculptor TONY HIGDON share a 7,000 sf studio & gallery (Higdon-Strecker Studio & Gallery) in Lexington, Kentucky.

Erika makes sculptural and functional pieces for the public and private domain. From large scale sculpture to furniture, lighting, to architectural details, Erika works in a variety of materials such as from hand-forged steel to bronze, glass, wood, concrete and stainless steel.  She designs and builds all her work, with the designs that resonate and respond to their sites.

She and Tony  (Higdon-Strecker Studio)  collaborate on a Large-scale PUBLIC ART –such as - “Nexus” commissioned by the State of Kentucky.  This sculpture stands 50’ tall by 12’ wide by 27’ deep, and was installed December 2006, in front of the Transportation Cabinet Building- downtown- Frankfort, KY. Strecker and Higdon are currently (in 2009) building commissioned sculptures for Berea College, Berea, Kentucky & for Vanderbilt University- One Hundred Oaks Medical Facility.

Erika and Tony installed “Aurora Ascends” a 34’ tall stainless steel sculpture in Sheridan, Wyoming for Sheridan College -in August, 2008.  

Erika installed “Taking Flight” a  18’ tall kinetic sculpture of forged and fabricated stainless steel, in McConnell Springs Park –dedicated May 2008.

Higdon-Strecker installed “Beacon” an internally illuminated  Public Sculpture – in Townley Center. “Beacon” is 20’ tall - steel, concrete and glass sculpture- Installed January 2006.   

Erika has been included in many exhibitions nationally and internationally, and is included in Public, Private and Corporate collections.
