I like working with my hands. I had been painting the last several years and recently returned to making sculpture. In this transition, I realized how much I missed constructing things as opposed to making images of things. I steam bend individual pieces of wood which are then joined together to form hollow shapes. Seeing the progression of flat material, re-sawn American ash, into three dimensions is what I enjoy the most. I feel as if I’m making something beautiful or cherished out of nothing, or from very little. Deliberately ambiguous regarding subject matter, I simply try to suggest interpretation.

I was born in West Virginia but grew up in Louisville, KY. I graduated from Kenyon College with a B.A. in Art in 1984 and currently live in San Diego.
