I work with disparate materials including resin, clay, metal, paper, fabric, light, found objects and natural elements such as insect nests and horsehair.  Components are used in surprising combinations in both intimate sculptures and large scale installations.  Often the arrangements suggest a surreal narrative.  For example, I use cast resin to create biomorphic forms evocative of living organisms, the amber light emanating from the resin giving it an otherworldly glow.  In some pieces discarded found objects find new life in works that juxtapose whimsically arranged elements.  The finished work appears to be something close to reality, but not quite real.

I am also interested in representations of the body, both literal and psychological.  In a series of work consisting of hand sewn garments hanging freely in the air, images are sourced from anatomical pictures.  Some of them are identifiable biological parts, while others challenge the viewer with images that defy categorization.  The structure of the garments changes as they move with air currents and catch light in unexpected ways.  One of my pieces, called “Hovering”, weaves an evocative narrative as the viewer responds to an old metal washtub that is placed beneath a ghost like garment that hangs in dynamic balance above.

The core of my work remains consistent.  Anatomical elements suggest archaeological digs, the body, and the passage of time.  I incorporate illumination, shadow and movement for mystery as well as to simultaneously suggest memory, loss and nascent beginnings.
