‘I celebrate the beauty of the living form in my work.’
Nude sculpture, both full figure and body part portraiture is my specialty and comprises a large portion of my work. I am in no way limited by subject, size or technique, and almost no material is unknown to me. My gift is in my ability to capture the beauty, grace, symmetry, majesty, or essence of whatever my subject may be.
In large part, due to my 1960’s collaboration with the late Eva Hesse, no style is beyond my range. In addition, it was my energy and cooperation that made possible the execution of over twenty of Eva Hesse’s major works during the last two years of her life. Retrospectives of her work have been held at the Guggenheim Museum, N.Y., and the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C. in 1992, and other retrospectives at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (I was interviewed in this video made for the 2002 exhibition: www.sfmoma.org/explore/multimedia/videos/162 ),the Tate, London and the Wiesbaden, Germany. There is now a full length documentary EvaHesseDoc.com, on the life of Eva Hesse, in which I am interviewed and also demonstrate the techniques that I used to fabricate her iconic pieces. Due to my involvement with Eva, following her death, I realized that I too wanted to become a sculptor in my own right.
I am not a ‘commercial’ artist. I don't follow trends. My art touches our primal center – unabashed, bold, quintessential, and beautiful. My work exhibits a combination of sensuality and form that is usually associated with Art Nouveau, but is distinctly modern and inimitable. My surfaces are meticulously polished and every nuance is captured with flawless grace and clarity. My work may sometimes be categorized as ‘hyper-realism’.
Alongside sculpting is my deep passion and aptitude in the fields of engineering, physics, astronomy and science. The technical precision and exactness that is inherent in these sciences is undeniably displayed in my sculpture, and I believe this sets me apart from others in the sculptural world.
I am available for sculptural commissions, corporate or private, large or small. My commissioned work is in numerous private collections and corporate cliental have included AT&T; Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith; The National Horse Show Foundation and Electric Bicycle Company.
My work has been exhibited at Gallery 10, Leslie/Lohman Gallery, Frank Fidel Fine Arts, Brenda Kroos Gallery, Erotics Gallery and Erotic Rarities – New York City; The Depot–Steamboat Springs; Genre Artisans’ Center–Denver; Art in the Park -- Loveland Colorado, Gulino Baum Gallery – Aspen, and Speakeasy Gallery – Los Angeles.
