Sculptor Linda Covit Info

Biography

Linda Covit was born in Montreal, Canada where she lives and works. Her outdoor site-responsive installations are often concerned with nature and the environment.

Recent commissions include a monumental water column in the lobby of the new Calgary Water Centre ; an installation on the mountain in Montreal, a heritage site, commemorating the 1969 John Lennon-Yoko Ono bed-in in that city ; four garden rooms in the Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, Orange, Texas (U.S.A.), an educative botanical garden certified platinum LEED; a sculpture - fountain for an urban square in Beauport, Quebec ; a plaza in Anchorage, Alaska.

Solo exhibitions have been held in Japan at the Canadian Embassy and at Gallery K in Tokyo; in Quebec at the Musée de la Ville de Lachine and the Musée du Québec; and in Ontario at the Koffler Gallery and the Genereux Grunwald Gallery in Toronto and the London Regional Art and Historical Museums, as well as galleries in various cities. Group exhibitions include the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2003 in Japan, the 53^rd Premio Faenza at the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza, Italy and Wave Hill in New York.

She was a finalist for the Flight 587 Memorial in New York and is currently working on commissions for a gift to Shandong Province, China from Quebec ; a garden wall for the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences in Toronto, Ontario; and a hospital garden.

Her works figure in the collections of the Musée d‘art contemporain Montréal, the Musée du Québec, the Cirque du Soleil, the Musée de Lachine, the University of Concordia.

She has received numerous grants from the Canada Council, the Japan-Canada Fund, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Cirque du Soleil and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in New York.
