Description:

Perci Chester’s sculpture has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries, including the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Nathan B. Rosen Museum Gallery in Boca Raton, Florida; Fort Mason Center and the Intersection Gallery in San Francisco; Minnesota Museum Landmark Center in St. Paul; the Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, Wisconsin; the Carr House Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island; and Flanders Contemporary Arts in Minneapolis. In addition, she has received large-scale outdoor public commissions in the United States and abroad, including the Poriya Hospital in Tiberias, Israel; and North Beach Public Housing in San Francisco.

Ms. Chester received her BFA from Washington University School of Fine Art, St. Louis and her MAT and MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, Rhode Island.

Statement

Using a wide range of materials, pieces vary in scale - from intimate and finely executed bronze casting to wall relief and architectural installations. Some begin as assemblage, while others are inspired by the site or materials and their possibilities.

My work is poised on the edge of balance, exposing the fragility of time and the mystery of being. The means become irreducible in their directness - a response to the form as it evolves in space.
