Sculptor Eric David Laxman has been creating a diverse body of work that includes sculpture, custom furniture and decorative metalwork. In his most recent sculptures, Laxman has been assembling stone fragments and welded metal into intricate compositions, exploring the tension between abstraction and realism. He finds his inspiration from both Eastern and Western Art and strives to connect these traditions by creating diverse works that express themes of growth, transformation, balance, and movement.
His most recent commissions have included a monumental site-specific stainless steel sculpture for a private estate in
Madison , Ct, and numerous decorative metal elements for Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar Restaurant in NYC.
Laxman’s artworks have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the NY metropolitan area, including the Bergen Museum of Art and Science and the
Convention Center in NYC. He has participated in Sculpture symposiums in
West Rutland, VT. And Cottonwood, AZ. Laxman has been actively involved in his artistic community, serving on numerous exhibition committees, teaching sculpture classes at the
Center for the Arts and working at two local high schools to create large-scale permanent on-site sculptures. He continues to teach an intensive stone carving workshop each summer at The Carving Studio and
West Rutland, VT.
Laxman received a Bachelor of Science from
University in Medford, MA and went on to study sculpture, drawing and printmaking at the School of the
Fine Arts in
Boston, MA .
