Bent glass, Woven Steel Belt, Custom Steel Hardware

This is the latest of my Tension sculptures, attached to the wall not with cables, but a braided steel belt.

Circumjacent is shown here in balanced lighting. Like Lift, it casts strong shadows on the wall when spotlighted. Horizontal banding picked up by the glass from the apparently smooth surface of the mold is made visible, completely changing the sculpture.

To keep such a large piece of glass from falling off the rounded top of the mold while it was heating up to bending temperature, I made a framework to stabilize it. This included two steel bars that lay across the glass, barely above the surface.

This sculpture is available for sale.
