Hare Ball (Study in Positive and Negative Spherical Space)
2003
17" x 17" x 17"
Steel

The sculpture is a steel sphere formed from curved and joined plates cut into silhouettes of Nova Scotia Snowshoe Hares. It appears as a metallic globe with a complex pattern of negative spaces and positive shapes which interact rapidly when viewed in changing perspective. The exterior surfaces have a softly burnished patina with copper and steel highlights. The interior is matte black.
