Blare of Autumn
2010
57cm
Bronze

Walking through the mountains near my home in Korea, I often find aged, broken, and eroded bones. At times they blend in with the forest floor, while other times they stand out in stark contrast to the other detritus that litters the ground with earthen tones. "Blare of Autumn" is not any particular bone, but a representation of what I find to be the most inspiring forms commonly exhibited in bones. At 38kg this piece is quite heavy compared with other bronzes its size; about 3 times as heavy. Casting it solid instead of hollow allowed me to achieve this. Suspended by a chain between chest and face height, and with no pedestal to rest upon, viewers will be more inclined to touch it. While initially drawn to the tactile sensation of cold bronze, the unexpected mass and weight will no doubt provoke further inquiry.
