Entropy
2011
5' x 5' x 3'
Clay

This sculpture examines the movement from wholeness to chaos. The work is composed of over 300 figures, rangeing from roughly 30 inches to 1 inch, arranged on the floor in a spiral pattern like the Milky Way galaxy with the tallest, most detailed figures in the center moving out to the smallest pieces which are also the most unrecognizable as bodies anymore. All but about a dozen figures were sculpted gesturally without me looking at them. Details and surface treatments were added without the aid of glasses or magnifiers of any kind. Although entropy is a scientific term, I used this piece to look at the psychological and spiritual disorder that humans experience.
