Nearly 400 ISC members, artists, arts administrators, curators, city planners, educators, students, and arts supporters gathered this past October in Grand Rapids, Michigan for the ISC’s 21 st International Sculpture Conference - Sculpture in Public: Part 2, Public Art. This 2 ½ day event, held in Grand Rapids in honor of its rich public art legacy, was hosted at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. Attendees had the opportunity to visit and explore the park’s botanical gardens, as well as its internationally renowned sculpture collection, 125 acres featuring more than 160 works in the permanent collection. Other conference highlights included a keynote address by world-renowned artist Jaume Plensa, whose largest US show to date opened at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park to coincide with the conference. The ISC also presented the Patron of the Year award to Frederik and Lena Meijer and the Educator of the Year Award to Ron Pederson.
We thank everyone who joined us in Grand Rapids. And special thanks to the many sponsors whose contributions enabled us to offer an inclusive forum for discussion on public art.
